What material to make a chain of glasses?

For this premiere, we suggest you create a beaded and seashell eyeglass cord with a chain. This is a chic and sophisticated bohemian style that goes with any look, in the city, on the beach or in the evening 😉

Here are the tools and raw materials needed to make your eyewear jewelry:

• spool of nylon thread 0,2 mm x 50 m
• pretty golden chain
• flat nose pliers with short tips and thin to work precisely and shape all your parts;
• cutting pliers with springs to easily cut your wires;
• open rings 5 x 1 mm to link the elements together;
• crushable bead covers 3 mm for a perfect finish;
• 2 gold or silver metal beads to make the link between the glasses clip and the first shell;
• 2 eyeglass clips transparent to attach your chain to your frame;
• crush tubes in brass to attach the clasp of your cord.

Concerning the pearls and shells, we leave you the choice! You can choose glass beads, wood beads, semi-precious beads, bamboo beads, mother of pearl beads or seed beads. As for the shells, we advise you to choose small natural models so as not to overload the chain and to favor the harmony of the sizes.

DIY eyeglass cord: all the steps

It’s time to give it your all! Here is the manufacturing process step by step.

Step 1

Open a ring with the short end pliers and insert the chain. Next, add the smallest loop of the eyeglass clip.

Step 2

Cut 45 cm of nylon thread (adapt the length according to your preferences) with the cutting pliers and thread 2 beads to crush. Then pass the wire through the wire guard. Then pass the thread back through the two beads to be crushed and pull it out 7 cm. Flatten and fold the beads in half with the short tip pliers.

Step 3

Thread a metal bead. Add a dot of glue to the beads to be crushed, then run the large bead over them to hide them. (?)

Step 4

You can (finally) start stringing beads! We advise you to put a majority of pearls and to alternate with some shells for a boho chic effect. However, you can also do the opposite or even alternate a pearl with a shell. Anything is possible! It’s up to you according to your taste and style.

Step 5

Perform the same finishes explained in steps 2 and 3.

Step 6

Connect the shells to the chain with a new open ring. Then attach the eyeglass clip on the other side.
